At 14 years old, Sani found herself trapped in the darkness of India's red-light districts.
For three years, she was traded from brothel to brothel and routinely abused for profit.
In a brothel notorious for "cheap sex”, Sani was raped by up to 25 men each day.
Your gifts provide a way out for girls like Sani.
Thanks to our supporters, IJM collaborated with Mumbai police to rescue Sani and three other girls from that brothel.
Sani soon settled into a long-term aftercare home and begun the process of healing in a trauma-focused therapy program.
"Sani’s sheer determination and bravery was unique at this stage in her own process of healing,” says Melissa, IJM Mumbai’s Director of Aftercare, "Just like your eyes take time to adjust to light after being in a very dark room, it takes time to heal even when you are set free.”
Sani’s healing made her determined to free her friends still trapped at the brothel.
"None of these girls came here willingly; they were all forced”, she told IJM "So I knew that by helping I was saving lives.”
After obtaining permission from the Mumbai Child Welfare Committee, Sani bravely chose to lead a team of Indian police offers and IJM law enforcement experts and social workers through a pitch-black building with only flashlights lighting the way.
They arrived at a hiding place where they found half a dozen girls, waiting to be rescued from their nightmare.
"I want to help, rescue others like how I was rescued” Sani says.
Sani’s rescue and restoration was made possible by faithful supporters like you.
But there are still so many children, women, and men who are living in darkness, desperate for rescue.
Make Sani's wish a reality.
Your generous gifts provide hope, light, and safety for those who need it most.
